Mount Pleasant Optimist Bursary

The Mount Pleasant Optimist Club created a student Bursary in 2016 to support youth who are committed to continuing their education.  

Eligibility

​Applications are due May 1 of each year. 

​

To be eligible, you must be a permanent resident of Mount Pleasant in the County of Brant, Ontario.  

​

The Grade 8 Bursary is $250.

​

For the Grade 8 Bursary, you must be registered full-time at the Mount Pleasant Public School and live within the attendance boundary identified by the Grand Erie School Board. Applicants must have completed at least 20 volunteer hours, with at least 25 percent of the required volunteer hours being completed within the village of Mount Pleasant and are asked to submit a log of their volunteer hours that includes the dates, the activity, the location of the volunteer activity, and the number of hours completed.

The Grade 12 Bursary is $1000,

​

For the Grade 12 Bursary, you must be a youth registered in Grade 12 or 12B at a local post-secondary school and live in the village of Mount Pleasant. You may be considered if you are not studying full-time, so please inquire. You must have accepted admission as a full-time student at a recognized post-secondary school institution. Applicants must have completed at least 55 volunteer hours, with at least 25 percent of the required volunteer hours being completed within the village of Mount Pleasant and are asked to submit a log of their volunteer hours that includes the dates, the activity, the location of the volunteer activity, and the number of hours completed.

 

Applicants are to complete a project and submit it with your application. See below for more information on your project.

References and school transcripts/report card will be requested in the application. See below for more information. 

​

All applicants must have demonstrated high ideals and qualities of citizenship through volunteer activities.

Your Project

​Grade 8 Projects

​

Complete a project using a medium of your choice (e.g. document, PowerPoint, video, recording, etc.) based on lessons learned during your volunteer experience regarding one of the following topics: 

1. Pay it forward. 

2. How did your volunteer experience make a difference to those in your community or those you assisted? â€‹

Grade 12 Projects

​

Complete a project using a medium of your choice (e.g. document, PowerPoint, video, recording, etc.) based on lessons learned during your volunteer experience regarding one of the following topics:

1. How did your volunteer experience make a difference to those in your community or those you assisted? 

2. How youth today make a positive difference in our community. 

3. What, in your opinion, is the biggest challenge facing youth today? â€‹

Apply

​Please have the following information ready to upload into the Application Form. 

​

1. Upload a copy of your high school transcripts (Grade 12) or report card (Grade 8).

2. Upload a copy of a letter of reference from a recent or current teacher summarizing your school conduct and performance.

3. Upload a copy of a letter of reference from a supervisor of your volunteer experience that summarizes your conduct and performance.

4. Upload the file(s) associated with your project.

5. Upload a copy of the log of your volunteer hours
